One of the reasons we knew our marriage would work, way back in 1978, was that we were both working toward a similar goal, from different directions. The Goal Being young and full of visions of a better world, we knew the only way to get there was to help people understand each other and the universe better. Victoria (better known as Vykki) moved into the educational field, and has worked in it ever since. Don dived into learning how to create books: how to write, edit, produce, and publish them. Their underlying philosophy was identical: sort out the truth, and pass it on. Vykki looked at all the ways of teaching various subjects, and used the ones that worked. Don looked at how to present information in the cleanest, clearest way. The Result Over and over and over again, in field after field, we discovered that actual, verifiable, true information, written in an easy-to-understand manner, was very, very rare. “Experts” argued on both sides of most subjects, and as often as not agreed on “truths” that were actually only opinions or arbitrary decisions made by other long-dead “experts.” (Example: “normal” body temperature is NOT 98.6°; it varies from person to person, and by time of day. “98.6°” was based on the findings in 1868 of ONE man (Wunderlich) using imprecise thermometers. It is not even an average.) So, these many years later, we are finally in a position to put all our work together in a practical way. *The Basic Glossary of Grammar* is only the first of many Basic Glossaries we intend to put together. And Basic Glossaries are only the first of the kinds of products we intend to produce. All of them, however, will have certain features in common: they will be useable; they will be easy to understand; and they will be true.
